No matter how well we feel today or how positive we may try to be, there are going to be those days you can't help but feel some negativity for a situation you may be in. Whether it's big or small, it affects you and your interaction with other people. Sometimes negativity can feel contagious, instigated by the others that rub off onto you. The more contagious it gets, the more difficult it can be to get out of it.

Accept the situation for what it is

One of the most difficult issues you will need to face when learning how to cope with negative circumstances is the necessity to accept things for the way they are. The only way I can look at it is things that happened in the past had happened and there is nothing I can do now to change that. The only thing I have any influence over is now, so I better not waste it.

If you have been through heartbreak, a loss of a loved one or any other of life's unexpected disappointments, then you will understand the difficulty, but necessity of accepting the events that have taken place. You can't move on without acceptance, so figure out, how is that different than any given day? No need wasting energy on the past because nothing is going to change that right now.

Take care of things now

Procrastination is a top contributor to negativity. Depending on the situation, it can cause unnecessary stress and anxiety that can easily be avoided by consistent behavior. Every day something comes up that can interfere with our routine in life, causing stress. This stress leads to a disgruntled demeanor as time passes and our obligation gets closer and closer to the deadline. As the stress builds, our ability to cope dissipates, causing more anxiety.

Look at it as this is your chance to get ahead in the game so if it ever comes down to "it is what it is", you'll feel confident you did what you could do. It makes it a lot easier to accept a situation if you have taken the steps now to rectify anything unsettled and avoid procrastinating.


I can never say enough about the simple practice of meditation. I call it simple, but feel it is much more complex than words can express. It is simple in the respect that the only equipment necessary to perform is you. You can implement much of what you learn about yourself in handling difficult circumstances everyday by understanding and sympathetic to what we may not be privy to.

We may have our ups and downs as we journey in life. It's not what happens to us that matters. It's how we deal with it that can show our true character.
